How should a vegan slowly re-introduce animal products back into the diet?
I’ve been a vegan for a little over two years now, but I recently joined the Navy and it will just make my life easier to start eating stuff cooked in butter, etc.
What’s the best way to start slipping in a few animal products here and there?
don’t think about it. i’d be much easier to eat meat and animal products, if you are unconscious of the fact of eating it. unless you are unconsciously choosing vegan choices, it should be rather simple. you could also tell yourself that you can choose anything you want.
good luck, and i hope this helps.
Soups, cheeses, eggs, then real meats. Dairy is the hardest to get back in the diet.
I was vegetarian for almost three years and I went back to meat easily. I wasn’t a vegan, but I think the process is pretty much the same. The most important thing to remember is to introduce dairy/meat products slowly and gradually back into your diet. Don’t run out and eat a steak or anything! I just started by eating a few bites of chicken or turkey with one meal per day, then increased that gradually to a regular size serving of poultry per day, then I started with red meats. For a vegan, I’d recommend starting with dairy then going to white meat, then red meat. Honestly, I was worried it would hurt my body or give me stomachaches, but I was fine. Just take it slow.
I am curious , Why were you Vegan ? If it was for animals then I can not see how you would eat them again.
If It was for Health , then why would you go back to a more unhealthy diet ?
I was in the Army (three years) and was combat trained , a force com unit. As a vegetarian in those days , it was Not a problem at all . As a matter of fact they gave me extra money to buy my own food and I could still eat in the mess hall , the foods that were suitable.
I think it would be harder if I had been Vegan then , but why Not give it a try first and see what they offer ? You may not be able to be a strict a vegan, perhaps dairy at times could be an issue : you might have to go vegetarian . I do know they were lots of Veg foods , veggies, potatoes, rice, salad , nuts . Remember they do use a lot of imitation butters and milk , non dairy . Hopefully it will not be as hard as you think .
It is your choice of course , but maybe once you get to permanent talk to the Cook , I actually Roomed with the Cook when I was on base ,my pick , lol, which worked out well .
Good luck and be safe
Vegan Forever
Are you a vegan for ethical reasons? If so, why are you compromising your ethics because it will “make your life easier.” Ethical standpoints aren’t supposed to be easy. It is your choice, but I went back to animal products for a while after being an ethical vegan and had a major bout of depression brought on by guilt. You’ll have enough stress in the Navy without beating yourself up for compromise.
If it’s only for health reasons, just go slow.
lazy bum
its easier to eat animal prodcuts
but its also easier to shoot yourself … i mena you’re gonna die at the end of life anyway why not make it easier on yourself and kill yourself
It’s going to suck!
I have been vegan for almost a year
and one day I decided to have a bite of my husband’s sandwich
(I don’t remember what it was… one of those sandwiches from waffle house)
I felt like crap for the rest of the day.
A while back my husband made me a plate of scrambled eggs (left over from before I went vegan) and I was sitting on the toilet for the next few hours…
Dairy is even worse…
Your stomach is going to hate you.
It would probably be easier to just not eat that shit to begin with.
It may sound like it would be easier to eat that stuff but your stomach will be upset all the time and you’ll be miserable.
I was vegan and moved to vegetarian then ovo lacto and now sometimes if I want some salami, I eat it. I still make an effort to avoid the things that I crave and was raised on for most of my life; foods that are ingrained in my memory and my culture. So, to all you haters, back off. Everyone has a right to choose what they put in their bodies.
I didn’t have any problems but I put off milk and dairy for awhile. Do the best you can with what you have. You’re serving our country and if you want to eat stuff cooked in butter, more power to ya. Ignore the rest of these crazy veg-heads. Rude vegans and vegetarians ruin the general public image of said group.
Also: introduce things slowly so if you have stomach problems you can narrow down what’s causing them.
Good luck.
