Whole Foods? It’s a grocery store that only sells healthy food. I just checked their website and I don’t think there’s any in Mississippi. I don’t know how close you live to Alabama or Louisiana, but there are some in both of those states (if it’s only a couple miles away, it might be worth taking the drive once every couple weeks for food)…

Other than that… You can probably find some healthy, vegan stuff at stores like Walmart (especially like, a Super Walmart with a huge food section), you just need to search. Typically, they don’t advertise it or anything, so just spend all day there one day reading labels and making a list of what is ok to eat and what’s not. Just don’t starve to death in the meantime! Until you find a suitable place to buy vegan food, you MIGHT need to resort to other foods to survive, so be prepared… Try and find at least a couple foods you know you can eat in the meantime.

You can also try Giant, they have a good variety of organic foods (I’m assuming most organic foods are vegan-approved but read the label to make sure). And if you have stores called “Trader Joe’s” near you, they are almost entirely focused on healthy, organic, and vegan foods. It’s still a really small chain that just started out a couple years ago, but look around for one or do a search online.

Do you have any vegan friends? Can you ask them where they get their food? You can even try growing some of your own food (tomatoes, peppers, corn, and stuff like that) in the backyard (assuming the ground is fertile enough and there’s no wild animals that can get to it).

Good luck!

Mmmm that’s a tough one.
Look in your yellow pages for organic food stores.
If you really don’t have any, most general food stores have an organic section. Special vegan food would probably be there.
Good luck!

Just about any grocery store should sell food for vegans. Walmart supercenters should have plenty of products. You just have to go in and look.
At fast food joints it may be harder though.

If I lived in Mississippi, I’d grow my own foods. :) I always wanted to do that but I unfortunately live in an apartment in the ever-sh*tty Kalamazoo, Michigan.

If you’re looking for restaurants, try happycow.net
They list them across the world and you get to find them according to your specific area. They also list health stores.

If you’re looking for recipes, try vegweb.com and fatfreevegan.com

If you’re looking for shopping markets, go to wholefoodsmarket.com and see if there’s a Whole Foods Market in your area and they have vegan products galore. :)

And in the supermarket, stay in the produce section. If you’re looking or convenience, many of them still sell a small selection of vegan products. You could look up “accidentally vegan” in Google and PETA provides a list of products that just happen to be vegan. :) Good luck.
